HJ DYSLEXIA

Diagnostic assessments for dyslexia diagnosis
Noticing signs of dyslexia in your child can feel overwhelming, but you are not alone. As a qualified specialist teacher holding an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) alongside memberships with the Dyslexia Guild and PATOSS, I provide clear, expert assessments you can trust.
Written assessment reports strictly follow SASC guidelines, meaning they remain valid into adulthood and can be used to apply for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA) in higher education. Each report highlights your child’s unique strengths while offering practical, tailored guidance to help them thrive.
What is a Diagnostic Assessment?
A full diagnostic assessment evaluates a child’s cognitive and academic attainment profile to formally diagnose dyslexia or identify other specific learning barriers. The ultimate goal is to give you a clear answer, an official diagnosis (where appropriate), and a practical roadmap to support your child's education.
The Assessment Process
-
Step 1: Background Information – We gather initial insights from you and your child's school to understand their history.
-
Step 2: Face-to-Face Assessment – A relaxed, one-to-one session taking approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete.
-
Step 3: Full Written Report – Delivered 2 weeks after the session, detailing strengths, difficulties, and targeted recommendations.
What is Included in the Report?
-
A formal dyslexia diagnosis (if appropriate).
-
Tailored strategies for the classroom, home learning, and assistive technology.
-
Clear recommendations for official Exam Access Arrangements (such as extra time).
-
Professional guidance for onward specialist referrals if required.
Location & Environment
Assessments can be carried out directly within your child’s school or in the comfort of your own home. Younger children often feel much more relaxed and confident in their own surroundings, making home visits a very popular option for families.
