ABOUT ME
Helen Janes
I am a fully qualified dyslexia specialist and hold a current Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC) with Dyslexia Guild. I am also a member of PATOSS (Professional association of teachers of students with specific learning difficulties).

I have been teaching for over 13 years and began my career as a secondary school English teacher. My experience has been teaching Key Stage 3, 4 and 5, and more recently working with Key Stage 2 students preparing for transition to secondary school.
After seeing first hand the difficulties that some children face in the classroom, I decided to focus my attention around children with learning differences. During the last 13 years I have worked with many dyslexic learners of all ages, helping them to feel confident in school and fulfil their potential.

Currently I work part-time in a school SEND team as a Specialist Teacher and Assessor. This enables me to stay in tune with current educational practices and to understand exactly what schools can do to practically support children with dyslexia or a specific learning difficulty. I feel that is important for me to be in a school, teaching children how to use strategies for success in education. It also ensures that I have current and up to date knowledge of the best ways to support dyslexia within the current educational framework.

The other half of my time I spend working independently. I work across Dorset and Hampshire delivering support for children. My work includes diagnostic assessments, exam access arrangements, school consultancy work and private tuition. I work for both private and state schools, and also privately for parents who want to offer their children further support.

About me, Helen Janes, more personally - I live in Ferndown with my husband and two sons. We love being outdoors at the beach or the forest, and also love to visit new places.
